Why Did You Get Involved in the MIHC?

I initially found the MIHC through the Irish American Club of Maine which I joined when I started taking Irish language classes in 2010.

I graduated from the University of Maine in 1990 with a BA in Communications/Broadcast Production. After graduating from college, I embarked on a 17-year career in commercial lobstering and commercial fishing. When not commercial fishing, I worked in the construction trades, which led me to my current employment as a Facilities Maintenance Technician for the Gorham School Department. I have served on the board of the Irish American Club of Maine for over ten years. Past board positions include five years as President, and I am currently Vice President of the club. With my background in facilities and construction, I have served on the Building Committee for the Maine Irish Heritage Center for the past two years.

Irish Roots

My paternal grandfather immigrated from East Cork, and he started my fascination with Ireland at a young age. I also have great-great-grandparents who immigrated from Antrim and County Laois shortly after An Gorta Mor.

Interests & Hobbies

My wife, Maureen Fitzgerald Terry, and I have three adult daughters that we raised in Gorham. My personal interests include the Irish language, culture, and history. I also enjoy woodworking and outdoor activities that include gardening, hunting, and fishing.
