Why Did You Get Involved in the MIHC?
Recently, I have attended many community events at the Center sponsored by the MIHC and its partner organizations. Several of my good friends, who are very active at the Center, encouraged me to get more involved. My late grandmother, a first-generation American, bestowed upon me the love of Irish culture and instilled in me the value of community service. Carrying on her legacy aligns well with the mission of the Center.
Experience
Growing up in Fort Kent, I began my education at the local elementary school and finished with a social sciences degree at the University of Maine at Fort Kent. I have over twenty-five years of political and business consulting experience that includes lobbying, public relations, and electoral and community organizing. I am currently serving my third term in the Maine House of Representatives representing District 42 in Portland. Previously, I have served as an aide to the Maine House Majority Leader and was the liaison between the Majority Office and the Tribal Representatives in the Maine Legislature. I have also conducted national outreach during the 2016 presidential election, as well as managed presidential campaigns in Maine in 2016 and 2020.
Irish Roots
While I look forward to doing more research on my ancestry, I am closest to my Irish relatives in Limerick and still have family living there. Serving on the Board allows me to help promote the mutual ties to County Limerick both here and in Ireland.
Interests & Hobbies
In addition to my work on the MIHC Board, my previous board service includes roles as chairman and later treasurer of the Native American Boys & Girls Clubs in Maine, a member of the Finance Committee of the Sacred Heart Church in Portland, and I have completed extensive volunteer work with Native American tribes, several immigrant and refugee communities, and labor unions. Whenever possible I spend time on the beach or hiking with my three children and their dog. I enjoy the Maine art scene, especially when my children have been involved through their school or other organizations.
