Library at the Maine Irish Heritage Center

Our collection at the Maine Irish Heritage Center Library contains over 3,000 books devoted to Irish history, genealogy, art, literature, language, travel and so much more. We also house magazines, newspapers, DVDs and CDs. The library has a strong genealogy collection consisting of city directories, yearbooks for many of the Portland high schools, obituaries and St. Dominic’s school registers. The library and its volunteers preserve the history of the Irish in Maine with archival resources such as photographs, newspapers and family genealogies.

We are open to the public on Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please come to our back door and ring the library doorbell. You may apply for a library card by bringing a valid ID. While most of our material does circulate, some of the rarer and more fragile items must be used in the library.

Our collection will soon be searchable online through LibraryWorld. Our volunteers are currently working to get the collection into our new system. Watch for our announcement!
