The Library at the Maine Irish Heritage Center
Our collection at the Maine Irish Heritage Center Library contains over 5,000 books devoted to Irish history, genealogy, art, literature, language, travel and so much more. We also house magazines, newspapers, DVDs, and CDs. The library has a strong genealogy collection consisting of city directories, yearbooks for many of the Portland high schools, obituaries, and St. Dominic’s school registers. The library and its volunteers preserve the history of the Irish in Maine with archival resources such as photographs, newspapers, and family genealogies.
We are open to the public on Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please come to the State Street door and ring the doorbell. You may apply for a library card by bringing a valid ID. While most of our material does circulate, some of the rarer and more fragile items must be used in the library.
Our collection is searchable online through LibraryWorld.
